In your book Shiloh I love how you describe Shiloh, Judd, and Marty. It really makes able to visualize the story and make it come to life in my head. Thanks for making this awesome book!

DVD of Shiloh movie

FOR TEACHERS:  Since I posted yesterday, Amazon has raised their price for the one new copy they were selling of the Shiloh movie DVD from $57 to $134 or something.  They do refer you to two used DVDs for around $15 the last I checked.   That might be the only way to get the movie for your class.  Phyllis

Why did Judd give Marty the collar in the book but not in the movie? Why is that? And in the end of the movie, why is Judd still mean but not in the book? That’s all I have to ask, But I hope you respond back to me.

Phyllis replied:

I didn’t write the movie script.  Movies usually want more action, but a book can tell you many more details than a movie can.

My class read the first of your Shiloh series. We all thought it was a fantastic book . I loved the suspence and I loved how marty stood up for himself and for Shiloh. But I wanted to ask where you got the idea for all of your wonderful charactors not that all of the charactors had the best attitude like Judd he did not have a good attitude.

Phyllis replied:

I have been asked this question by your class so often that I really have nothing more to tell you.  But I’m glad that you enjoyed the suspense!

Me and my class read your Shiloh book. I loved your book! I was very intrigued. I love how at first it was sad then later on it was more extreme. I have some questions why did Judd have a tough and endeavor back round? Also why did you name the puppy Shiloh? [sorry I forgot to add my name in the other one so i had to do it again]

Phyllis replied:

I’m sorry that I don’t print your names, but there are a number of reasons I don’t do that.  Many people who are cruel like Judd have been treated cruelly when they were younger.  I named the dog Shiloh because I found such a dog in the real community of Shiloh, W. Virginia.

it is very nice to meet you an I love the story Shiloh that you wrote. My whole class read it. I want to ask you were did you get the idea of Judd and his traits? The book Shiloh is a amazing book again and I can not wait to read the second part. Thank you again!

Phyllis replied:

I hope you  will have  a chance to read all four of the books in the quartet:  Shiloh, Shiloh Season, Saving Shiloh and A Shiloh Christmas.  In the last book, you will find out what finally happens between  Marty and Judd.

Dear Mrs. Naylor,
My name is Bennet and I have a question for you. The question I have is where did you find the personality traits for every single character like Marty’s kind personality and Judd’s mean personality? Also I love all of your books and your books made me want to read more! Your books really inspire me because of the personality of Marty and I’m trying to be a better person like Marty. Thank you for making me want to read more and my class read this together, we read it one by one chapters and my class always asked to read another chapter. Your book really inspired me, thank you!

Phyllis replied:

I was interested to know how your class read the book.  When a writer knows what a character is going to do in her story, she has some idea of what his personality will be.

the hardest part of writing Shiloh

Comment:

Dear Mrs.Naylor, My name is Sam and I would like to know what gave you the idea to write Shiloh or was this based of something that happened in real life. What was the hardest part of making the book Shiloh.

Phyllis replied:

I had to make sure that Shiloh didn’t bark when Marty was hiding him in the hills, so I couldn’t spend too much time in that part of the book.

you made a great story it was great i really loved it. I have a question. How did you come up with writing this story? And I have one more. Were you about to cry reading this because I thought it was really sad.

Phyllis replied:

When Shiloh got hurt and Marty had to carry him to the car, not knowing where his dad was taking him, I  had tears in my eyes too.
