Rescue dog?

Comment:

Dear Ms. Naylor,
I am in 4th grade at Hickory Flat Attendance Center in Mississippi.
My class has just finished reading Shiloh and i loved it.I was wondering if Clover was a rescue dog? Additionally, what happened to Clover?

Phyllis replied:

Please find out more about Shiloh on my website.  Though the dog was female, I made her male in my book.  She was not a dog that rescued people; she was a dog that was rescued herself.

I was wondering if Phyllis Reynolds Naylor autographed books. Shiloh was one of my favorite books as a child and I’d like to get a copy for my cousin Finley who has a learning disability and just entered middle school. If she is willing to sign the books, I will order them from a bookstore of her choice. Thanks in advance for your help.

Phyllis replied:

Yes, I will autograph books sent to me.  Please arrange for their postage both ways using the bookstore Politics and Prose in Washington, DC.  You will find them most helpful.

Shiloh movie

Comment:

Dear Mrs Naylor, sorry i’m doing this again but I forgot to tell you my name. My name is Andrew and I have the same question, Why did Judd give Marty the collar in the book but not in the movie? Why is that? And in the end of the movie, why is Judd still mean but not in the book? That’s all I have to ask, AGAIN. But I hope you respond back to me.

Phyllis replied:

When producers buy the movie rights to a book, they are allowed to make changes  in the story which they think will make a more interesting film.  Producers usually add more action to a movie than was in the story–it’s up to them.   Judd is much meaner in the movie, and that helps insure that when the second movie comes out about the second book, the audience will be even more eager to see what happens next.

Shiloh

Comment:

Hi mrs.Naylor! My name is Linda. I wanted to give feedback on your book, Shiloh. It is a really amazing read. But I feel like it needed more at the end, Maybe another chapter? But I really enjoyed the book. I loved reading this book for my summer reading project.

Phyllis replied:

Thank you for your email.  I felt there was more to the story also, and what’s why I wrote the second book, Shiloh Season.  But when I finished, I decided there was still more to the story so I wrote the third book in the series, Saving Shiloh.   And finally, I wanted to show what happens to the relationship between Marty and Judd, so I wrote the fourth and final Shiloh book, A Shiloh Christmas.

Hoping to watch the first 2 Shiloh movies before the 3rd

Comment:

Thank you so much for the Shiloh quartet! My 9 year old son and I are beginning the second book. Yesterday he discovered that there are Shiloh movies. Of course, we don’t want to watch movies 2 or 3 without having read these books first. Still, we’d love to watch the first Shiloh movie since we’ve finished the first book. I’ve looked everywhere for a copy on DVD or streaming online and I can’t find one. We’d appreciate any help you could offer on this front.

On a personal note, Our 15 year old (dog years) lemon drop beagle Sprig died in January of 2020. On June 5 of this year, I adopted a beagle rescue dog named Piper who’s 5 years old and came from a home with 40 or so animals who were neglected and or hit. Piper looks just like Shiloh. As we read about Shiloh, we gain more empathy with and thanks for Piper. Piper and Shiloh have both been a help in the midst of not only the pandemic but also my former husband and my divorce and a blood platelet disorder for my son. Thank you, Phyllis, thank you.

Phyllis replied:

I went to Amazon online, typed in Shiloh DVD, and found a DVD of the first Shiloh movie, another containing the first and second movies, and a third containing all 3 movies.

Missing chapters in Shiloh

Comment:

Our school has multiple copies of Shiloh, published by Dell, Yearling, however the first 3 chapters are missing. These books don’t seem to have those chapters torn out. Was there a supplement that had the first 3 chapters?

Phyllis replied:

No.  Your librarian should write to Dell and ask for a replacement of these misprinted books.    Perhaps your librarian bought some from a place that sells imperfect books, but this is unacceptable.
