Thank you! Netflix series?
Just wanted to say a quick thank you! I first discovered the Alice books in 4th grade and read them every year until my freshman year in college when the final book came out. Alice was always the same age as me in the books and I feel like I grew up with her.
I’m now 25 and am making time to re-read “Now I’ll Tell You Everything” and I’m loving every minute of it. The Alice books have been such a huge part of my life and I really hope they make it into a Netflix series or movie!
That’s an interesting thought. I don’t know if there has ever been a series in which the main character goes from 8 years old to 60! Of course, it did take me 28 years to write the books–one book a year. But it’s so gratifying to hear from women in their twenties and thirties who are now sharing the books with their daughters. Thanks so much for writing to me!
Movies??
Do you ever think there will be any alice movies? (other than Alice Upside Down)
I’d like to think so, but I haven’t heard the producers talking about it. The same people who made the one Alice movie made the Shiloh movies. Maybe someone will turn the Alice series into a Netflix series, who knows?
Alice Series
Why did you decide to write The Alice Series?
I thought it would be interesting to write about a girl in search of a role model–a girl who has no mother, and is being raised by her patient dad and older brother. I could think of a lot of funny and serious and poignant experiences she could have, and finally agreed to start a new series as long as she could be slightly older in each book.
happy late birthday!
Hi Ms. Naylor, I realized that your birthday was on January 4, and I just thought I’d wish you a happy late birthday. Your books, especially your Alice ones, have meant the world to me, and I hope your day was amazing. Thanks so much!
Well, I can’t say my birthday was amazing, but it was fun–lunch with some of my favorite girlfriends, and gifts arriving from my two sons and their families–one living in New Jersey, the other in Minnesota. Give me music and stories and chocolate and I’m a happy camper.
Thank You for Alice
Comment:
I just wanted to say thank you for writing such an amazing book series. I found Alice when I was 10, now I am 12 and have finshed the series. You are amazing. And thanks to you a lot of teens have gotten a great book with them.
Phyllis replied:
I’m so glad you read the whole series. It took me 28 years to write them all, and I laughed and cried a lot during the process.
The Kiss in the Closet
Comment:
I was reading the part in Outrageously Alice where Patrick drags Alice into the closet. My question is this. Do you think Alice was overreacting when she felt violated due to the french kiss?
Phyllis replied:
Obviously, Alice did. There are a lot of borderline things in life, and that’s one of them. The closet-thing was part of the spooky Halloween tour, so kids were prepared for scary things to happen. But a forced tongue-kissing wasn’t on the list. Because Alice and Patrick already liked each other, he probably felt that a spontaneous kiss like that might be appreciated, forgetting the fact that she didn’t know who was doing the kissing.
What are your newest alice books and where can I find them?

I would really love to have one of your alice posters signed your books are amazing and personally I don’t like reading but your books really interest me!
Phyllis replied
Go to the Alice section of this website and you will find all 28 titles of the Alice series. Click on those that you have not read yet and it will tell you about the book and where you could purchase a copy. Also ask your public or school librarian to help you find the ones you want. I need your address in order to send a poster. Email it to me at Phyllis_naylor@comcast.net
Alice’s Ex….
Comment:
what happened alice’s ex boyfriend dave? did she ever see him again? did he end up marrying? thank you for taking my answers into consideration. i hope you have a wonderful day.
Phyllis replied:
I’d like to think that Dave found a girl who suited him better than Alice would have. Both of them deserved to find someone who loved them just like they were.
Characters are awesome!

I’m 15 years old. I live in Massachusetts. I just wanted to say i think the alice series are a true treasure. these books make me happy. i learn a lot from them. i have not read them all but thats my goal before christmas. I think its hard for people like my age to find good books there is a big age gap between young book and older books thats why i love the alice series. the characters are awesome. i can relate to a lot of the events also. Im in high school now and thats big. I have ideas about what i want to be when i grow up. i think being a writer like phyllis reynolds naylor has inspired me cause i do like to write. thank you 🙂 !!!
Phyllis replied:
I’m so glad the books have meant that much to you. I hope you have a chance to read all 28!
Alice memories
Comment:
I am 32 years old, and first discovered the Alice series when I was around 11. It was the first time I learned that reading can be fun, and I’ve considered myself a “reader” ever since. I remember going on your website and reading your questions and answers you would put up. Now, as an adult, I’m planning on buying the full series for my daughter. She is only a year old, but I can’t wait to share these books with her one day.
Phyllis replied:
Thanks for your lovely email. I’m glad you’re planning to get the whole series now, because I don’t know how many sets my publisher ordered, but they won’t have copies forever. You will have such fun reading the books together when your daughter is older. I hear from a lot of mothers that this is a favorite activity when their daughters are ten or older.
