Phyllis replied:

I think that four books are probably enough, because there are so many other kinds of books I want to write.

Phyllis replied:

Thank you.  If your teacher will write to me at my personal email address, Phyllis_naylor@comcast.net, and send me the school’s address, I will be happy to send your class a Shiloh poster.  Yours is the first class I’ve heard from that read all four Shiloh books in school.

It took me several years to write all four Shiloh books.  But I have had about 145 books published, and I have been writing full time for sixty years.

Phyllis replied:

My husband and I found the little dog in the small community called Shiloh in  West Virginia.  So I decided that Marty would name the dog Shiloh.

the story

Comment:

my question is how did you get a storyline for shiloh did it pop up in your or did it take you a while to think about it?

Phyllis replied:

Before I begin a book, I usually know how it will begin, what the plot and climax will be, and how it will end.  But this isn’t true of Shiloh.  I was so upset about the dog we had found in West Virginia that I simply set out to see how an 11 year-old boy could get a mean, miserable man to give up his dog so Marty could care for it.

how Judd changed

Comment:

Hi!Im Mackenzie and my teacher,Mrs.young Has read me all of the shiloh books they are so amazing and teaches me all about showing kindness and to be a marty. my teacher when she read the first book she said to be a marty not a judd . They are the best marty was nice to his sister he helped judd . this a very nice and peaceful story.and when i read the books its like im that person.and i hope you make more books like that in the future.and i loved how judd changed and the preacher got taught a lesson from judd i can’t believe it and he was very calm and nice .

Phyllis replied:

It just shows that people can change, doesn’t it?  Sometimes what it takes is to know that someone cares about them.

characters and names

Comment:

hello mrs.phyllis naylor ur books are amazing i really love shiloh i was wondering how do u come up with all those charecters and all those names.

Phyllis replied:

I think a long time about each character–what he or she is like, and what name to give each of them. It depends on where they live, boy or girl, the age, etc. and I try to make all the names different from each other so the reader won’t get confused.
