Rereading the Alice Books at 27

Comment:

I am so happy to have the opportunity to send you an email, finally. I have been reading the Alice books since I was in grade school, and I am about to turn 27 in a few days. There is nothing more comforting to me than to pick up one of the Alice books (I think that Alice in Rapture, Sort Of is my favorite) and jump into her world. I am from the Northern Virginia area, so I think that makes me relate to Alice even more.

Not only do I love escaping to Alice’s world and feeling like I am a part of her life, but I have learned many lessons. My life has always been pretty tumultuous, especially in the past few years, and reading the books when I get into bed at night is the best way to end my day. It helps me relax and escape from all the drama, stress, or sadness that is going on at the time. I just finished re-reading the entire series in order, and I think I’ll start over again in the next few weeks.

I think I could go on forever talking about the Alice books and how much they mean to me, but I feel like I’ve already written enough. I hope that you get this email and don’t get bored reading it! I’ll leave you with this, something one of my characters said:

Phyllis Naylor, you have a gift for words! Thank you for sharing that gift with me.

PS: SO happy that Alice and Patrick ended up together!

Phyllis replied:

I’m amazed that you were able to find all the books again.  Next year my publisher is going to reprint the entire series in paperback and offer them for sale in three boxed sets.  But you obviously either had some or all of the books to begin with, or have access to a library, and I feel so honored that you took the time to read them again.  I well know how books can offer relaxation and escape as well as insight, sometimes, into our own lives.  Thank you so much for your email.
