why did u make the dog abused

Hey, I`m a student and I was wondering why did u have to make the dog abused, I love the book, by the way, I just don`t understand that like I get that people get abused, but that doesn’t make any sense to me.

Some people take their anger out on whoever or whatever is available, and for Judd, it was his dogs.  Have you ever seen the photographs that the Humane Society or the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals have taken, of dogs they have rescued?  Very often the owners were  treated very badly when they were children, and now they have a chance to take their anger about that out on someone or something else–they get to be “master” instead of “victim”.  If you read all four books of the Shiloh trilogy, you will see how Judd changes and what brought that about.
