Would Your Books Ever Come Out Early?

Would your books ever come out earlier than the publishing date if you finish early?

Phyllis replied:

No, because an editor makes up his/her list a year or so in advance, and the Alice books are scheduled perpetually for the spring/summer lists. If I got the manuscript to the editor six months in advance, she would probably stick it at the bottom of her pile and work on the manuscripts which were scheduled to come out sooner.
