How long have you been writing?

Forever, it seems.   My parents read aloud to us every evening–a half hour or more–  it was the happiest time in my childhood, especially my dad reading Mark Twain books to us.  In kindergarten I made up stories and sometimes the teacher wrote them down for me.  I began making my own little books in 4th or 5th grade and illustrated them.  That was my hobby.  My first short story was published when I was 16.
