Is this book about a real story that happened
Is this book about a real story or did you just wanted to write it? I love your books about Shiloh
It’s partly true, because I really found a dog like that in West Virginia, and it was eventually adopted by friends of ours who lived there. We don’t know the dog’s history but we do know she was very frightened and dirty and hungry when we first found her.

my Shiloh film
I am Caroline from Grant Center for the Expressive Arts. I am sending you this letter because I made a 90-Second Newbery film about your book Shiloh. One part of the book I liked was when Marty finally got Shiloh because he had been through so much all for Shiloh. I made my 90-Second Newbery film with my cousins we had plenty of fun doing it. I filmed it and my cousins acted in it hope you like it. Here it is:
I don’t want to encourage people to send their movies or manuscripts to me because I simply do not have the time to watch or read them and continue with this blog and my own writing . But because yours was only 90 seconds, I did watch it and enjoyed your cousins in their acting debut!
Sam in the movie
Would you happen to know Why Sam is in the Shiloh movie and not the book?
I think that the screenwriter was afraid that if there weren’t more girls in the movie, then girls in the audience wouldn’t like it so much. But then he shortened the name “Samantha” to “Sam” so that boys would like it more. But then he had her kiss Marty on the cheek to appeal to girls. I’m glad I’m not a screenwriter.
Shiloh
What is your favorite part of Shiloh and are you going to write any more stories?
I like the part where Marty’s dad says “I want you to do what’s right!” And Marty asks “What’s right?” And his dad has no answer. there are four Shiloh books. I hope you’ve read them all.
Shiloh movie now available
For teachers who have wanted to use the Shiloh movie in connection with the book and have been unable to find it, the producers have sent me several copies that I might loan out to you. I would need your name and the address of the school, as well as your signature and that of your principal or supervisor. To arrange this free loan, please contact me at this second email address: phyllis_naylor@comcast.net
Zoom sessions with your class
To help out during this difficult time for teachers, I am doing a limited amount of Zoom sessions with classes who have completed a study of my book Shiloh and seen the movie. To arrange a session with your class, please email me at phyllis_naylor@comcast.net
My fourth grade students and Shiloh
Happy February, Mrs. Naylor! I am a fourth grade teacher in southwest Ohio.
My students and I read Shiloh every year. It is much beloved. This year the book (and movie) were exceptionally bright spots in our year due to all the challenges we face with Covid in the classrooms (masks, social distancing, limited interaction, no art or music classes, etc.) We were wondering if you might be able to Zoom meet with us one day before school is out in May… I am certain you get so many requests, but I told the children, it never hurts to ask! In any case, we hope you stay safe and healthy especially from Covid. Love, Ms. Ferguson’s Class
Yes, we can arrange that. Please contact me at phyllis_naylor@comcast.net
Shloh
I am quite sure that people have asked this before but how long did it take you to write the entire Shiloh series. PS Thank you for writing the book
I didn’t write them one right after another. Sometimes I wrote a completely different book in between. But each book took about six months to write, counting all the different drafts.
was shiloh a real dog?

Yes, Shiloh was a real dog that I found in the little community of Shiloh, West Virginia. It was finally adopted by our friends and they named it Clover.
