Questions about a book

Comment:

I’m completely a hundred percent blind, autistic and have a chronic heart condition and I was first exposed to youur Shiloh book when I was fifteen, my now late grandmother, purchased it for me, on CD.
That first Shiloh book made me almost cry, which is very hard to do, without professional equipment 🙂
Well, I’m an adult now, and with my audible subscription, I read your Shiloh Christmas and it almost made me cry, yet again.
The thinking chair with the claws, made me come close to crying.
I love your books, and how they’re put together.
God bless you

Phyllis replied:

Thank you so much for your email.  Sometimes I cry when I’m writing a book, because I have to imagine myself as each of the characters I’ve made up.  I’m so happy that you love my books, and I hope that you will be able to find books 2 and 3 of the Shiloh quartet:  Shiloh Season and Saving Shiloh.

Bonding over Shiloh

Comment:

I just want you to know how much I love all your books! I’ve read everything from the Alice series to Boys vs. Girls and Shiloh! Shiloh and the Alice series are my most favorite things you’ve written and I have a neighbor who’s in his 60s who has a dog named Shiloh and I when I asked him about how he got the name he said he read your book but he didn’t know your name and we both laughed when I told him your name and he said “A woman wrote this? I thought a man did!” and now we sometimes talk about the books and we’ve really become friends! Thank you for writing all the most amazing books I have ever read, including the Alice series!

Phyllis replied:

Wow!  You’ve made my day!  Thank you so much!  And hello to your friend.

Shiloh

Comment:

Hello. I’m from Korea.
And I’m worried that you didn’t get the point of the Shiloh issue. The matter is not a publishing matter, but just the explanation of the book on this webpage. You can just change the edition from Japanese version to Korean version, because the book cover is from Korean edition. That’s it. You don’t care about the republishing matters. We did not mean it.

And I hope to change this one word as soon as possible.
Thank you so much. Have a nice day.

Phyllis replied:

I’m sorry, but I truly don’t understand what you want me to do, since most readers don’t have a copy of the edition you’re talking about.  So I’m simply going to print your last email so that those who do have the book will understand where a mistake was made.

Serious Error about Shiloh edition info.

Comment:

Hello, this is Narae Kim from Korea.

First of all, I would like to thank for your wonderfully beautiful story. That’s why I visited your homepage. While browsing this web site, I found out very serious misinformation about Shiloh edition.

On page where Shiloh is introduced, there is some information which is published by another country. Specifically there is Korean version of Shiloh, but the explanation about that edition says that version from Japan. This is totally wrong. Not matched the picture of book and explanation.

Considering huge impact of you and your book, it would be misleading people. Thus please correct this issue as soon as possible.

Thanks in advance.

Phyllis replied:

I’m hoping that the company who printed that edition will correct the error in the next printing.

to correct an error

Comment:

The cover of the Shiloh book below is not a Japanese edition but a Korean version. There is a Korean title, but the Japanese version below is a ridiculous situation. Please correct it to the Korean version as soon as possible.

Phyllis replied:

I hope the company that printed this edition will make corrections.

why did u make the dog abused

Comment:

Hey, I`m a student and I was wondering why did u have to make the dog abused, I love the book, by the way, I just don`t understand that like I get that people get abused, but that doesn’t make any sense to me.

Phyllis replied:

Judd was a miserable, angry man who didn’t know how to deal with his anger.  He himself was mistreated when he was a boy, and many people in this situation grow up to abuse anyone or any animal that is weaker than they are.  They are trying to prove that they are no longer a victim–that they are in control.  If Judd had children, he would undoubtedly have mistreated them.  Once he experienced the kindness and concern of Marty and his family, he began to change.

Phyllis replied:

Some people take their anger out on whoever or whatever is available, and for Judd, it was his dogs.  Have you ever seen the photographs that the Humane Society or the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals have taken, of dogs they have rescued?  Very often the owners were  treated very badly when they were children, and now they have a chance to take their anger about that out on someone or something else–they get to be “master” instead of “victim”.  If you read all four books of the Shiloh trilogy, you will see how Judd changes and what brought that about.

We love your books

Comment:

Good morning. I just wanted to share with you that our class just completed the fourth book in the Shiloh series. We began in the Fall with Shiloh and have thoroughly enjoyed every book. Our class became so attached to Shiloh that we decorated our door and even shared the book with other classes. We just wanted to thank you for your beautiful stories and for bringing Shiloh to life for us here in New Jersey in these tough times. We truly have learned to appreciate what we have. Thank you again.

Phyllis replied:

I’m so happy that you enjoyed all four books.  Yours is the first class I know of that studied all four books, so you have seen the slow change in Judd and how everything turned out for Shiloh and Marty’s family.  Thanks so much for telling me.  You made my day!

Shiloh, 4th grade

Comment:

Hello, my name is Jarrett Koby. I started my student teaching in 2008. When my new assignment came, I was assigned 4th grade and on that first day, the class was starting Shiloh. I had heard of the book but never read it. Needless to say that the class loved every page of it. As dated as the question may now be, I was hoping if there was any chance that you could send the teacher, Jennifer Fitzgerald, perhaps an autograph. It may sound odd but that 2008-09 class did a great job with that book, introduced them to a new world and had them wanting to read it outside the classroom environment. I am sure she has read this book with classes prior and after that 08-09 class. I thank you for both your time and consideration and, of course, for Shiloh.

Phyllis replied:

I appreciate your tribute to a teacher .  I’d be glad to send her an autograph but need a school address where she is still teaching.
